Dear Fellow Colleagues and Friends,

On behalf of the Society for Emergency Medicine in Singapore (SEMS), Resuscitation Council of Asia (RCA) and SingHealth, we are honoured to invite you to our SEMS Annual Scientific Meeting / International Resuscitation Science Symposium (SEMS I-ReSS) of 2016, which will be held on the 27th and 28th of February 2016, at The Academia at Singapore General Hospital.

With the hosting of the International Liaison Committee on Resuscitation (ILCOR) on the 25th and 26th February 2016 in Singapore for their annual Business and Taskforce meetings, we will also be organizing the SEMS I-ReSS – the first international gathering of global and regional experts in Resuscitation Science following the publication of the CoSTR, outside of US and Europe.

ILCOR was founded in 1992 to provide a global forum for discussion and coordination among principal Resuscitation Organisations, such as the American Heart Association, the European Resuscitation Council, Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada (HSFC), Australian and New Zealand Committee on Resuscitation, Resuscitation Councils of Southern Africa, Inter-American Heart Foundation and the Resuscitation Council of Asia. ILCOR will be publishing a new International Consensus on Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Emergency Cardiac Care (ECC) Science and Treatment Recommendations (CoSTR) in October 2015.

Emergency physicians, fellows and diplomates of the College gathered last April 13-15 at the Crowne Plaza Galleria Manila to celebrate another successful year of Emergency Medicine in the Philippines. Outgoing President, Dr. Eligio Maghirang welcomed the delegates before introducing Honorable Congresswoman Leah S. Paquiz, RN, Founding President and Partylist representative of ANG NARS who opened the convention as keynote speaker. The opening of the poster exhibits by emergency medicine residents followed.

The scientific program commenced with Dr. Paul Fraley, the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP) International Ambassador to the Philippines talking about the past, present and future challenges in cardiopulmonary resuscitation. The invited foreign speakers also included Dr. Lim Swee Han, the Secretary-General of the Asian Society of Emergency Medicine (ASEM) and Dr. Adi Osman, the President of WINFOCUS Malaysia. The scientific program will not be complete without the complement of excellent Filipino speakers including Dr. Gabriel Gabriel, Chair of the Department of Emergency Medicine, Makati Medical Center, Dr. Arthur Dessi Roman, Vice-President, Philippine Hospital Infection Control Society and Dr. Alfonso G. Nunez, Head of Hospital Training and Research Office, East Avenue Medical Center.

The second day of the convention featured track sessions on emergency medicine, EMS and Disaster Medicine and quality management. Five simultaneous workshop sessions were conducted for emergency medicine practitioners, emergency care nurses, emergency medicine technicians and medical students.
